SHANE TIVENAN | WRITING MENTOR
'Vital, visionary.'
Irish Times

Writing Mentor
I work with new and established writers on all aspects of prose development. My mission is to nudge people away from generic writing towards their own human edge and nuance—offering iterative, detailed advice from line edits to big-picture structural feedback, without ever stepping on the writer’s voice. My own work has won the RTÉ Francis MacManus Short Story Competition and the John McGahern Award, has been widely published and nationally broadcast, and is being translated into Italian. I have years of teaching experience, including university-level and international creative writing workshops.
'Tivenan’s is a voice of cyclonic force and originality.'

How it works
I create quiet, intensive mentorship spaces for artists developing short stories, novel drafts, or cross-disciplinary prose projects. The mentee sends up to 6,000 words every month for detailed line-editing, stylistic commentary, and structural feedback. As well as the editorial notes, we hold 1-on-1 Sessions: Two 60-minute video calls per month to discuss the draft, craft notes, scope, direction, and next steps.Structure & Pricing: €350 / month with a 3-month commitment. This time frame allows real progress.Availability: I’m limited to 4 writers at a time to keep the work intensive and focused.
'There is a psychedelic brilliance to the way Shane Tivenan harnesses language.'
